What is an IP rating?

IP (or "Ingress Protection") ratings are defined in international standard EN 60529 (British BS EN 60529:1992, European IEC 60509:1989).

What do the digits in an IP Rating mean?

The two digits stands for different forms of environmental influence:
The first digit stands for protection against ingress of solid objects.
The second digit represents protection against ingress of liquids.

What is the difference between IP65, IP67

IP65 - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against water projected from a nozzle. “Protected against water jets from any angle” do not submerge IP65 LED lights, these are not waterproof.


IP 67 - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against immersion “Protected against the events of temporary submersion (10 minutes) , so do not submerge IP67 LED lights for extended periods.

Which IP Rating do I need?

In most outdoor displays where you worry about rain and irrigation sprays, IP-65 is typically good enough. IP65 for exposed outdoor lighting, and IP67 for fishing industries,such as seaport,airport,ship…
