Researchers at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom conducted a one-year study to determine if Li-Fi could adversely affect the energy efficiency of LEDs. The study was funded by the British Engineering and Natural Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The researchers explained the project in a paper on “Studies of the Effects of Visible Light Communication on Illumination and Display Quality.” They found that LEDs can meet the needs of wireless communications without compromising the light or environmental benefits they provide.

With the help of two different data transmission techniques, researchers studied LEDs that produce warm white light and cool white light.
