softball field lights

Whether you own or manage a horse arena, if you want to ride in optimal situations, you need quality lighting. This goes for both indoor and outdoor horse arena lighting systems, which we cover below.

Our perfected LED horse arena and roping arena lights give off the perfect amount of light to illuminate your arena to improve safety and quality of the experience for both the riders and spectators. In addition to the improvements in quality of light for riding, major cost saving benefits come along with LED horse arena lights that make choosing LED even easier.

These benefits of LED horse arena lighting include things like energy savings up to 80%, increased lifespans up to 2 to 3 times longer, decreased maintenance costs, improved quality of light, and improved experiences for your visitors and property.

Recommended Footcandles

In most cases, 15–20 footcandles is acceptable for casual outdoor arenas, though this depends on the size of the arena. For hunter/jumper training, the recommended footcandle level is 40, while for both training and competitive dressage, a 50-footcandle minimum is recommended. If you are lighting a competitive show-jumping arena, 70 footcandles is appropriate.

There is relatively limited information regarding the minimum amount of footcandles for many equestrian sports including bull riding, so much of your personal preference for your individual facility will come into play. Razorlux sports lighting specialists can help you determine exactly how many footcandles your horse arena or bull riding arena requires.

Indoor Horse Arena Lighting

If you are dealing with a full on and enclosed horse arena, there are certain aspects you should consider. Since you will commonly rely 100% on lighting, it is a very important aspect of the horse arena that shouldn’t be overlooked.

For a general guideline, color temperature of around 5500k is near that of sunlight, and it provides the highest contrast on colors. This can be optimal if this is the type of lighting desired, but we can customize it to do what works best for your needs and desired horse arena lighting design.

Another issue other lighting technologies (such as metal halide, HPS, or fluorescent), is that they are prone to flicker and / or buzz. This can cause irritation, low quality experiences and spectating, and can even drive people away. With LEDs in your indoor horse arena lighting system, this issue is removed entirely and will never happen.

Outdoor Horse Arena Lighting

If you have an outdoor horse & roping arena, the exterior lighting plays a big role after the sun goes down. Since LED technology is directional by design, it will eliminate excessive light pollution compared to other lighting technologies commonly used in a outdoor rodeo arena lighting system.

Commonly, outdoor lights consist of metal halide or HPS horse arena lights. These lights also give off less than optimal color temperatures, use up 75% more energy than LED, and cause a lot in replacement costs. For these reasons, it is exactly why we see more and more horse arenas are converting and choosing LED technology, inside and out.

Our LED outdoor horse arena lighting packages enable you to avoid these pitfalls of other lighting technologies and go straight to a lighting technology that works for you, saves you money, and improves your riding experiences and shows.

We also got a hold of some solar solutions; enabling you to go with a horse arena solar lighting system. If this seems interesting, be sure to contact us and ask us about it!

Outdoor lighting for horse arenas and equestrian facilities are becoming more sophisticated every day. In the old days, horse arenas and outdoor rodeo arenas were lighted with outdoor flood lights, halogen lights or simply mercury vapor barn lights.

To make your selection of outdoor arena lighting simple and easy we have put together some basic lighting kits. The heavy duty mounting brackets are designed for use with 6” to 12” wooden poles. All the fixtures can be rotated and pivoted on site to properly aim the lights as needed. We recommend that you use the following guidelines for selecting a wooden pole lighting kit:

250 watt fixtures are designed for a 20 foot or less mounting height

400 watt fixtures are designed for a 20’ to 30’ foot mounting height

1000 watt fixtures are designed for a 30’ or more mounting height

Parking Lot Light Poles & Area Lighting

Of course, if wooden poles are not what you had in mind for your upscale equestrian facility, commercial lighting poles and fixtures can be used for a more architectural and refined look. These professional outdoor commercial arena lighting kits are more durable, offer steel and fiberglass lighting poles, and are better suited for larger equestrian facilities.
