football field lights

For a length 96* width 58 meters football field, it needs 24*600w led flood lights to reach a maintained average horizontal floodlighting luminance of 200 lux, and it cost $20,000. For a 100lux, you need 120*600w football field light. And it cost $9530.

Does anyone have any estimates on the approximate cost to adequately light a football field?

Types of poles allowed

Obviously wood is cheapest but some school systems will not allow. Do not pay for concrete poles and if done correctly, steel poles embedded in the ground (coated from the ground below) will be OK. Electrical service available - obviously will need 480 power so how close is it and do you have to install football light fixture.

Subsurface Conditions of Football Field Lights

Type of soil and groundwater affect pole embedment and cost

Basically, you want 50 footcandles in infield area and 30 in the outfield. Get different manufacturers - Razorlux. Some will try to sell you for the extra cost to have ballast near the ground so it will be easier for future maintenance. However, not familiar with anyone who has to replace/repair ballast. At some point in future will want to have someone clean lens on lights and in future will need to replace bulbs since they dim over time.

Recommend that you get three or four football field lights contractors (representing different stadium lights manufacturers) to work up a cost which will not cost you any funds.

Metal Halide Lamps cost

Metal Halide Lamps should last about 12,000 hrs. Lamps are typically 2000 W and there would be somewhere between 3 and 4 per post. Each lamp costs approx. $450.00

Replacement will require an electrician and an elevated work platform (EWP). An EWP to hire is in the order of $1600.00 per day.

Apart from the lamp, you will likely replace the ignitor and capacitor at the same time and that costs around $100 per light fitting.

Cleaning every 2 years will help with maintaining lux levels. To maintain Australian standard football stadium lights levels the lamp and igniter will need replacement every 2-4 years depending on usage.

LED Lamps cost

LED lamps should last about 50,000 hrs

As per Metal Halide lamps, LED lamp replacements will require an electrician and an elevated work platform (EWP).

LED football field lighting provides significant electricity savings and maintenance savings over the life of the

fitting. LED technology for sports field lighting is still relatively new in Australia for Sports Field Lights and has a high capital cost compared to metal halide technology. Any proposed installation should be assessed individually for your site. Please note replacement of lamps is generally the responsibility of the leaseholder so please refer to the terms and conditions of your lease and budget accordingly.

Football Stadium Lights Cost

The quality of football stadium lights required depends on the level of competition and type of sport. Typically a rectangular field for amateur use would have 4 poles and lighting levels of 50 lux for training and 100 for competition. For semi-professional competitions, the levels may be 100/200. Your State Sporting Association will be able to advise you of what you need for your level of competition.

The installation should allow for switching between training standard and competition standard. Lux levels decrease over time so Council specify about 20% more than required so for 50/100 we would specify 60/120 (training/competition).

Installation Cost of Football Field Lights(flood light installation cost)

4 posts 60/120 lux installation typically costs in the order of;

$125,000.00 to $200,000.00 (for Metal Halide)

 $300,000.00 plus for LED

Items that can impact the price:

 The electricity supply and capacity to the site (if an upgrade is required from Razorlux it may take a significant amount of time before the upgrade is completed. (Please include a provisional sum of up to $50,000 in your budget to cover potential upgrade charges)

 The condition of the existing electrical installation

 The ground conditions for the light pole footings

 Re-use of existing poles may not be feasible due to re-certification costs especially if there are no records of their initial installation.

The budget table below should be used as a guide only (based on Musco Lighting Australia Pty Limited’s

experience over many years). Football Field Lights Costs will vary between manufacturers and will also depend on the quantity and

quality of floodlights proposed for use.

How much is a football field?

This is one of the first questions most potential clients have. How much does FieldTurf cost? Prices vary from region to region and from product to product. It also depends on the sports your field turf surface will be used for. Most of our installations are for football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse and field hockey.

Here is a general estimate of the initial cost of an artificial turf football field. It is broken down into two parts:

The drainage base consists of compacted stone materials found beneath the turf carpet, providing a level surface which allows precipitation to trickle through it before reaching the drainage system.

For a typical full-sized football or soccer turf field, approximately $4 per square foot should be budgeted for the drainage base.

Drainage bases can have a life expectancy of 20-30 years (the life of 2-3 turf fields).

The turf panels (carpet) are laid on top of the drainage base and the infill materials are layered into the carpet to provide footing to the athlete and protection from the stone base below.

For typical, full-sized football or soccer turf fields, a conservative price of $4.75 per square foot should be budgeted. Football and soccer fields are approximately 80,000 square feet.
