What is the cost of stadium lights?
Apart from energy bill, many of us may wonder how much stadium lights cost. For a typical high school pitch, the total cost is ranged from $40,000 to $100,000, which depends on the brand and origin of the LED lights.
Although the lights at the Stadium are on for football games, practice, maintenance and more, the electrical systems manager said the operating cost is far less than some expect. George Bates, manager of electrical systems at TCU’s Physical Plant, said lighting the football stadium for one night costs about $100.
“It’s not as much as you think when you’re dealing with larger entities like the stadium,” said Ross Bailey, associate director of athletics.

If you purchase the LEDs without carefully looking at the weight, you would face costly, compulsory reinforcement prior to installation. The expenses can be up to 2.5 times the price of the LEDs.
Advanced lighting system reduces operating costs
Advances in lighting technology have also made LED operating costs more attractive than ever, and more affordable than traditional lighting such as metal halide lamps. Stadiums with LEDs can save 60% to 70% of total energy costs.
What does the total project cost?
The average installation cost of the arena ranges from $78,125 to $781,250, and the installation cost of the stadium ranges from $781,250 to $2,343,75, depending on the area of the stadium and the lighting facilities. Wait. As energy and maintenance costs decrease, the return on investment of LED systems is often seen in a few years.

Operating costs – Lighting systems are computer regulated and may help to reduce staff resources.
Maintenance costs may also be reduced if your lighting systems uses bulbs that are commercially available rather than proprietary, which may need to be special ordered. Be sure to budget for the costs to replace bulbs, which usually require the use of a bucket truck or cherry picker. When possible, design systems so that ballasts are placed within reach of a ladder to minimize the need for expensive pole climbers or bucket trucks.
Also develop a plan and the procedures to operate the lights, including designating and training your lighting operators. Consider the cost of electricity and future costs such as re-lamping and major repairs when determining rental rates for usage by outside groups. Unique partnerships may also help defray capital or operating costs, such as entering into an agreement with a cellular telephone company that needs a cell tower in your area. The lighting pole/cell tower can serve a dual purpose of providing cellular service and supporting the lights for your field. Many times, you can negotiate to get new lights and income resulting from leasing the land to the cellular carrier for the tower and space for the transmission equipment.
When buildings are required for the transmission equipment, you may be able to negotiate for some needed storage space within the structure. Always make sure that your site will be a co-location tower so you can have more than one carrier on the tower. It is common for carriers to pay $10,000-$20,000 per year to lease space for the towers.
Typical Field Lighting Costs
A high school football field can be lighted for approximately $200,000. This includes lighting levels of 30 footcandles and assumes that power source is adequate and within 100 feet of one of the four poles. Costs could range up to $400,000 depending upon the field’s location and specifications.
Cost of Running Your Stadium Lights
Since we seriously believe LED is the best option for stadiums and sports fields to illuminate their place, we are going to use that as our example (and recommendation). Let's keep it simple so you can use our example to get a rough idea what it will cost to run your lights.
Let's say you have 10 lights. Currently, your high masts are metal halide and use 1,500 watts per fixture. Now, let's say you are looking for a more efficient technology and you come across LED. You find a comparable light which will output the same amount of light (or lumens), and only consumes 400 watts per fixture. In total, the metal halide lights are consuming 15,000 watts in total (when in use) and the LEDs would (if chosen) be using only 5,000 watts. That is 3 times less energy, which can lead to some great savings. This reduction from 1,500 watts to 500 watts per fixture is the exact reason fields both small and large fields are converting to LED over other technologies like metal halide and HPS.
Additionally, since LEDs last longer they enjoy an additional benefit of less maintenance requirements. This allows more cost savings as an indirect benefit of LED high mast lighting.
We may wonder the cost of stadium lights before and after buying. Before the purchase, we may wish to know how much and the best & lowest cost for stadium lamps ; while after the installation, we will have the concern about the running cost of the football floodlights, such as the maintenance and electricity cost. Indeed, the light themselves can be up to $75,000, while the running electricity bill is about $10 to $20 per hours if you are using LED flood lamps. However, this is only the general picture. This value varies greatly according to the types of luminary, size of ball field, height of pole, the nature of the matches (whether it is for professional matches or recreational competitions).
