Design Standard Requirements of Football Stadium Lighting 

Light source selection

1.1 Football stadium lighting should be used in stadiums with a building height of more than 4 meters. Whether in the outdoor or indoor metal halide lamps are the most important light source for sports lighting TV broadcasting should be given priority.

1.2 The choice of light source power relates to the number of lamps and light sources used. At the same time, it affects the illumination uniformity, glare index and other parameters in the lighting quality.

Therefore, according to the site conditions to select the light source power can make the lighting program to obtain a higher cost performance, gas light source power for the following categories: 1000W (excluding 1000W) for high power; 1000-400W for the medium power; 250W the following for low power. 

The power of the light source should be suitable for the size, installation position and height of the playing field. Outdoor stadiums should use high-power football stadium floodlights. Indoor stadiums should use medium-power metal halide lamps.

1.3 The luminous efficiency of metal halide lamps of various powers is 100-120 Lm/W, and the color rendering index is 75 to 90 Ra. The color temperature of metal halide lamps varies from 3000 to 6000 K depending on the type and composition of the metal halide lamp. For outdoor sports facilities, 4000K or higher is generally required, especially when compared with daylight at dusk. For indoor sports facilities usually require 4500K or higher.

1.4 lamps should have anti-glare measures.

1.5 Lamps that are used in gymnasiums should have a long service life. Metal halide lamps have a long service life, and the light source has a slow light failure. Floodlights for football field usually have a short service life, fast light decay, and are not suitable for long periods of time and frequent use.

1.6 Open metal luminaires are not suitable for metal halide lamps. The degree of protection of the lamp housing should not be less than IP55, and the places where it is not convenient to maintain or have serious pollution should not be less than IP65.
