Applications

Why Razorlux Explosion Proof Luminaires Outperform Alternatives

Triple-Layer Containment Engineering

Internal explosions are confined. The expanding gases are cooled by our luminaires to below ignition temperatures via flame-path junctions before they are released. IP68-rated enclosure – no flammable vapours can get in T6 surface temperature rating – no ignition from outside even with continuous operation at 50°C

Real-world proof: In 2019, a Middle East refinery replaced 200 HID lighting with Razorlux LED luminaires. No failure after 40,000 hours of operation in Zone 1 regions.

Built for Corrosive and High-Vibration Environments

Offshore platforms corrode standard fixtures in months. Our marine-grade powder coating passes 3,000-hour salt spray tests per ASTM B117. The shock-mounted LED assembly withstands vibration levels up to 7G—critical for drilling rigs and mining crushers.

A North Sea operator reported 60% lower maintenance costs after switching from conventional explosion-proof lights.

Explosion Proof Luminaire

Superior Light Quality Reduces Workplace Accidents

Harsh shadows and glare cause costly mistakes in hazardous areas. Our precision-engineered reflector distributes light uniformly across 120° beam angles, minimizing eye strain during 12-hour shifts. The 95% glass transmittance ensures maximum lumens reach work surfaces—improving hazard detection by up to 40% compared to aged HID fixtures.

Application Scenarios

We recommend upgrading the lighting system to explosion proof luminaire.

Oil & Gas Extraction

Challenge: Methane gas present in Zone 1 + salt water corrosion + 24/7 operation

Solution: Our IIB+H2 certified fixtures are suitable for offshore environments and provide T6 surface temperatures. Used on 50+ FPSOs and jack-up rigs in the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico and South China Sea.

Chemical & Petrochemical Plants

Challenge: VOCs + stringent T-rating standards

Solution: Sealed housing to prevent entrance of vapour. The advanced thermal design maintains surfaces below 85°C making it T6 classification capable even at 40°C ambient temperatures. Used in 30+ refineries with benzene, toluene and acetone.

Packaging and Transportation

Underground Mining

Challenge: Combustible coal dust (Zone 21) + methane gas (Zone 1) + high vibration

Solution: Dual Class I/Class II certification. Dust shedding design avoids build-up that might cause overheating. Shock resistant structure evaluated in accordance with IEC 60068-2-27. Active in coal mines in China, Australia and South Africa.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Challenge: Explosion protection + GMP hygiene requirements

Smooth powder-coated surface. Avoids particle entrapment. Solution: With an IP68 certification, washdowns are a snap. Applicable in solvent recovery rooms and API synthesis facilities where Zone 1 hazardous area and ISO 7 cleanroom requirements apply.

Grain Handling & Food Processing

Organic dust explosions (flour, sugar, starch)

Solution: Zone 22 approved for use in flammable dust situations. Sealed construction prevents intrusion of small dusts and no igniting sources . We have installed in more than 100 grain elevators and flour mills worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "explosion proof" really mean?

This indicates the fixture has internal sparks or flames without igniting surrounding hazardous environments. The enclosure is resistant to internal pressure due to combustion and resistant to flame propagation by means of well built flame routes.

What is the difference between Class I and Class II ratings?

Class I includes flammable gases/vapors (e.g., methane or benzene). Class II covers flammable dusts (coal, wheat, metal particles). Many locations need dual rated luminaires. Our typical models have both categories.

What is the difference between Zone & Division classification?

In North America Division 1/2 systems are used. Europe and most other areas utilise Zone 0/1/2 (gases) and Zone 20/21/22 (dusts). For each quotation we give cross reference charts to match your local codes.

Can I go straight to LED fixtures to replace HID lights?

Yes, generally. Our luminaires employ the same mounting patterns as conventional HPS / MH Ex-proof luminaires. LED improvements provide 40-60% energy savings and longer life (50,000 versus 10,000 hours).

Do you have emergency fallback versions?

Yes. We develop dual-mode luminaires with built-in battery packs that provide 90-180 minutes of emergency lighting in accordance with EN 60598-2-22 requirements.

What upkeep will be required?

Gaskets should be inspected yearly for physical deterioration. Clean the glass lens as required. Do not use harsh cleaners. Always disconnect power and follow lockout/tagout procedures before opening enclosures in hazardous locations.
